Ripley, WV – Cedar Lakes hosted a soft opening of their updated archery range on Monday, October 5th. Located below the dining hall, near council circle #67, the range consists of nine targets ranging from 10 yards to 50 yards; suitable for compound and genesis archers.
Daniel Winnell, an archery coach for Ripley middle and high schools’ archery programs, helped secure donations for the project from Carter Lumber—who donated the materials for the stands—and Bridgeport Equipment who donated all the targets; five bag targets, and four block targets. Daniel says he saw a need for a range at Cedar Lakes and reached out to Director Holli Vanater about the potential, which sparked the idea for this project. This range will allow for more youth archery opportunities and provide a practice facility for the area’s National Archery in Schools Programs (NASP).
The range is available for use at no cost, April 1- November 30 (weather permitting) following the campus hours of 8am-8pm, but reservations are required through the main office. Interested parties may submit a reservation request online at cedarlakes.com under activities and recreation or call the office about availability, (304)-372-7860. An adult over the age of 18 must accompany groups and individuals under the age of 18. Events such as competitions or tournaments must be booked through the Cedar Lakes reservation manager and are subject to rental fees. Once a time is reserved, archers must stop by the main office to sign-in upon arrival, and sign-out upon departure.
